Namicha Baayyee Dheeraa

Namicha baayyee dheeraa

This is part of the afaan Oromoo books that are available from African Storybooks. Specifically, I got the PDF for Namicha baayyee dheeraa from the Storybooks Canada website. This is the first one that I saw while looking through those that I have. It is not the easiest one that they have produced, as it is level 2, but it still is an incredibly basic story to start reading.

It is perhaps not helped that this is the bilingual edition that I have saved. You can read only the afaan Oromoo version and this would probably be the way to go if you are able to do so like I am now. Still, this was one of the first afaan Oromoo resources that I found and better yet, I could access it immediately in Ethiopia unlike many of my nicer grammar books and textbooks which had to be shipped from abroad. Besides identifying the possessive for the third lerson singular of he there no clear grammatical pattern that takes places within the book.

Besides reading this for basic vocabulary growth Namicha baayyee dheeraa is not something that I would pick up nowadays. As a whole the series of books that Storybooks Canada makes available is a great resource for a language that can be as resource scarce as afaan Oromoo. Since these are all done through Creative Commons, these books also hold value in the amount of places and the modifications that one could use them for. I would love to see a graded reader series attached to a newer textbook to make afaan Oromoo more easily accessible by those wishing to learn it. This would clearly be within the earliest of the readers as there is little plot point behind the story itself other than that the man is tall and has many short things, but after time makes longer or taller things for himself.
